Healthy Town: Issue II

Today I'm bringing you the second, and very much overdue, installment of Healthy Town (to see the first you can click here)! I'm so honored to share with you the sweet Jenny Medina. She is a loving mother to two beautiful boys, a personal trainer, consultant for Juice Plus, and a giver of her time and talents! "At the heart of it all, I'm a COACH. I love challenges. I love diversity. I love making the impossible seem exciting!" Thank you for sharing with us Jenny!

Q:What motivates you?

A:I get motivated by finding ways to solve a problem. Specifically, when someone really needs help, I want to fix it. If there's not an obvious answer, I want to find it. So, more motivated externally, then internally. That's really hard for people to figure out at times, but well worth the time and thought.

Q:Did you have an a-ha moment?

A:I've had several. The first was after Reed was born. I have two boys. Jake is 13, Reed almost 10. I had a rare pregnancy related liver disease that almost took my life when I delivered Reed. That experience enabled me to really understand pain, fear, anger, loss, worry, and survival. So, it's been a lot of work in progress, but incredibly worth the personal growth. Another life changing event occurred when my mom was diagnosed with Lupus over 6 years ago. She's a Nurse Practitioner, and, until then, was incredibly healthy. The disease, and the process of curing it ourselves, has been an unbelievable journey. It's ongoing and very inspiring. I'll continue to learn, share the education, and inspire others to be proactive.

Q:Do you have any workout secrets?

A:Yes! Move when it suits you. Find your inner child. If you don't like to run, don't run! Almost everyone I know has been on a bike at some point. It's easy to stop walking, or to stop jogging. It's not as easy, to get off your bike and walk it home! A bike ride is an easy and freeing way to clear your head, get some exercise, and see what's around you. Don't settle. That means, keep searching if you haven't found a good fit. There are so many classes, terrains, people, etc. Do some soul searching about what you need to keep accountable. I've found that having a buddy or coach is invaluable. My clients have given me similar feedback.
"Whether you think you can, or you can't, you are right"

Q:What pushes you when you’re feeling like you don’t want to go anymore?

A:Sometimes I do give in to that emotion, but make an agreement with myself that I'll check in with one of my accountability partners by a certain day/time. That's really the secret. Give yourself permission to let go at times, and know that you're not doing life alone. If I really need to buck up and go, I'll think about something I accomplished that really changed my game. You have to dig deep at times. Go back as far as you need to and get a picture of true happiness. That will move mountains.

Q:What is your favorite go to (healthy) snack?

A:OMG, I have sooooo many!!
  •  Juice Plus Complete dark chocolate/coconut water shake OR, Vanilla, powdered peanut butter and banana.
  • Amy's Teriyaki Burrito (Kroger)
And, because they were such troopers, and it's my blog after all (wink), I thought I'd share these cute pictures of Jake and Reed! Thank you Jenny, and thank you boys!
